Prayer
- Pray for our brothers and sisters in Moscow. Infections are at 10,000 in one day. The outbreaks are mostly in Moscow.
- One brother (age 39) in a Baptist church died, leaving a wife and three children.
- All classes are now online at both seminaries and learning centers.
- Pray that churches will be able to continue support for the ministry as we plan for the coming year.
- Pray for the churches in Russia, which now demands your church affiliation to gain treatment. They are using that to single out Baptists.
- Pray for the hundreds of pastors trained by the NAB in Russia when communication is difficult.
- Continue to pray for the head of the Southern Baptists in Russia surviving the coronavirus.
- Pray for our brothers in Novokuznetsk as they continue to train and lead in that city.
Praises
- All teachers for next year now scheduled (pending as always in this crisis).
- The work of the Lord goes on in the seminaries under difficult situations.
- Student missionaries from Ukraine seminary serve all over the world.
- Our partners in both areas remain safe.
Psalms 56:3–4
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, in whose word I praise—in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
My last trip to Russia included a very important meeting with Victor from Novokuznetsk, with his good friend Vasilli in Moscow. He said he wants to use our consultants when his new group is formed. Likely four different ones will be serving.
His area has not been hit by the coronavirus, as it is isolated from most of the other region.
These facts from Moscow Seminary:
- 956 enrolled in Moscow and learning centers.
- 90% of villages and towns have no evangelical church.
- Only 250,000 Evangelical Christians in a country of 144 million.
Olexandr shared the basics of the missions program at Odessa Seminary, one of their really great programs.
Ten to twelve students are selected each year, those with biblical training and a call into missions. They are chosen by the seminary and the Baptist Union in Ukraine.
They first undergo 12 weeks of intense training at the seminary before they are sent out to raise funds to go to various fields as interns in missions service under a skilled mentor. The internship is six-months long, with visits by the program leaders.
When they return, they are examined by the seminary leaders and the Ukraine Baptist leaders. If they are approved, they are then able to raise support and graduate from the program to serve in various fields:
- Egypt
- Nigeria
- The “stans”
- Uganda
- Kenya
- Nepal
- South Korea
The normal financial need is $400 US a month. The success of these missionaries is very high.
