Dear Family and Friends,

Elsiepic10“Stop, look and listen.” “Hands together, heads bowed, eyes closed.” “Drop and roll.” All of us have been taught certain phrases to help us remember and stay focused. This summer Sonya Kilmartin and I repeated the “mantra”, “See it, hear it, say it, write it” about a thousand times in three weeks. We were teaching phonics to primary school teachers at the Ndop summer program. These undertrained but dedicated teachers appreciated all that we can teach them.

As well as our Cameroonian collegues, we were joined by two other guest speakers. Courtney Bell, a speech therapist with Samaritan’s Purse, usually works with the School for the Deaf at Mbingo Hospital but joined us to teach about how to work with disabilities in the classroom.

Wendy Lundberg was accompanying her physician husband, Joel, for a three week visit and offered to teach education administration, her area of expertise.

We made some changes to the schedule this year, creating two modules of three weeks (Perhaps YOU would join us next year for three weeks.) and increasing the amount of practice teaching time. It was a great way to see our efforts in action.

Elsiepic14A very special part of summer program is being able to put materials directly into the hands of teachers.  Elsiepic16This year in addition to alphabet charts and phonics flashcards, we were able to give a teacher’s library of 15 books each in a cloth bag.  A big thank you to Ludwig Techigraber and friends in Kelowna as well as many others who have sent books and finances to the primary school supply fund. The singing, dancing and praising God were incredible.

Thank you for your special part in making this summer ministry happen. God is using it in unseen ways. May you continue to be blessed by Him.
