Dear Friends,
We are excited to tell you about our work in Hungary as your NAB national workers with MEK Hungary.
School happenings
Our MEK team facilitates 3 classes, 2 days a week in a High School in Hatvan with CHE lessons.
It’s a challenge to motivate them, but also a great joy, when we see them think and enjoy the classes. They are gypsy students from difficult backgrounds. We enjoy getting to know them and spend these times focusing on God, them and each other.
A few topics:
- Health issues
- Adolescent development
- Getting to know you
- Working together
- Feelings
- Responding to stress
- Drawing your dreams
We play, act and do big and small group conversations. We also have their teachers in these classes. God touches their hearts also.
Boldog
This village is near to Hatvan. We have a couple of people, who are motivated to change the life of gypsies. We started with family visits, getting to know people, making friends. Now we have started to have Bible studies Tuesday evenings. We would like to work with children and youth, because there is nothing for them: no activities when they are out of School time. They need fellowship and normal possibilities to hang out, play, develop and learn about the future.
Mátraszőlős
We attend the Mátraszőlős Baptist Church, where we have some Roma brothers and sisters in our congregation. This is a great joy! We live in Pásztó, 10 minutes away. 1589 people live in Mátraszőlős, 64 gypsy families. There were several mission or church groups who had done work among them. Gypsies were saved and then attended the Baptist or other churches. But few of them stayed in the church. We see a big need for Community Health Evangelism, discipleship, community development, fellowship building, programs for the different age groups to help continue the work, which has started.
József Csuhai coordinates the work in Csörög
Every two weeks we have Bible meeting in the village of Csörög. In the other weeks we teach guitar.
Our goals are to have a Vision Seminar in the Spring, then a TOT1 (Training Of Trainers 1). We have connected with 10 families, where members are open to the Word of God. The village leaders are excited and wait for the changes as we work with these families.
Vácegres
We have an unused school building in Vácegres, where we work with gypsy children and youth. The Youth group has moved back into the Baptist Church, but in the school, we hold craft meetings and prayer events for the village. We plan to have presentations on interesting topics which will start the change. That is our hope for the future. To change the next generation.
Pocsaj
Basket-making is on the table these days. There are people, who make their baskets and I take them and sell them by, leaving them on gas-stations or in schools.
In the Derecske Baptist Church, there are members, who are planning with me to build a building for 3-4 people to continue this project for a living.
