The month of June was filled with lots of special events before my colleagues, Brandon and Marci Jones, and their daughters headed on home assignment. Marci and I planned “high tea” for the seminary women that involved them decorating hats for the occasion. And Marci shared about deepening your faith through the practice of Bible reading. Even the seminary men got involved with their top hats.
I attended a women’s event in our local association, where the plenary speaker was my former roommate. What a special reunion. I call her my little hurricane, as she came into my life many years ago and turned it upside down in a good way! She taught me so much about Brazilian culture and how to love people well.
As God continues to open doors for us to invest in Uruguay, our field sent two pastors and their wives to meet with NAB partner Hispanics for Christ while they were doing church-planting training in Argentina. One of the pastors is church planting in the city of Rivera, Uruguay, and has started a seminary there to train other church planters. Since I have been invited to teach at the seminary there in the future, I have begun taking Spanish classes. The other pastor is a seminary professor from Montevideo. Connecting these couples to Hispanics for Christ and their partners in Argentina had a huge impact for these couples, especially the church planters in Rivera.
Greenfield Community Church in Edmonton, Alberta, spent several days with us. First, their lead pastor, Tyler Williams, came and taught the second part of Introduction to the Old Testament at the seminary where I serve. I was his interpreter.
Then, the rest of the team joined us as our churches continue to form a sister-church partnership.
The seminary offers its pastoral formation program to the dorm students in the evenings from Monday to Thursday. They also offer the same program to locals on Saturdays. This month, I started teaching Bible Study Methods to the Saturday group of students.
In October, we are looking forward to hosting another team from West Meadows Baptist in Edmonton. That same month, I will be travelling to São Paulo to be one of the speakers for the missions symposium being put on by the Independent Baptist Convention.
The second Neurodivergent Camp that Paulo and his team have planned is scheduled for the third weekend in November. I will be volunteering by his side. It is the same weekend as seminary graduation, so I will have to miss out on part of the camp activities, as I have been invited to give the commencement address – what a huge privilege from the graduating class.
