Expansio Launches
In April we launched a new program in Spain, Venezuela, and Colombia called Expansio. Angelo Oncoy-Salazar (a Doctor of Ministry student of ours!) designed and launched this new concept for church planting.
New students
Angelo identified, assessed, and invited 50 students to begin a two-year program of studies designed to equip them theologically and practically for planting new churches. The goal is to produce 50 new church plants that reproduce from the beginning.
The program is designed around four modules the students will complete. With the completion of each module, the students will earn a certificate issued by Kairos/HFC. These modules are: Missions and Church Planting, Pastoral Counseling, Pastoral Leadership and Church Administration, and Biblical Theology.
Each student will have a mentor to work with them as they do studies in seminars, online, and in on-site cohorts. They also commit to sharing the gospel with at least five people per week. At the end of their studies, this could mean as many as 26,000 people have heard the gospel!
We are very excited about this project and would like to see the model exported to other locations in Latin America, and even in the United States.
Collaborating in Salta, Argentina
In June, Tony Campos and I will be in Salta, Argentina, (along with Randy Schmor) to work with Lucio Gallo (a Doctor of Ministry student of Kairos/HFC) at the ESEF Bible Institute. We will be teaching courses on Mission History and Church Planting that week with the students of the Institute (56!). We will also have a couple seminars with the instructors at the institute to bring them some teacher training and an overnight retreat with several couples planting churches there.
While there, with the help of Lyndell Campbell Réquia and the NAB Brazilian ministry, we will have a chance to meet with a number of church planters we have been working with from Brazil, Uruguay, Spain, and Argentina. Our purpose is to strengthen relationships for church planting across Latin America.
Most of these leaders are students in our Kairos/HFC seminary, and this time will help to collaborate their efforts in all these countries.
New Graduates
In April, two additional students completed their studies through the Kairos/HFC Seminary. Elizabeth (Colombia) completed her MDiv. She is the director of Missions for the Christian Missionary Alliance churches of Colombia. Aldo (Bolivia) completed his MA program. Aldo teaches full time at a Christian university and leads missions and youth ministries in his church. He has already enrolled at Kairos University to continue studying for his Doctor of Theology degree.
This brings the number of graduates through our partnership to four!
