Our Brazilian Kairos Project held its very first gathering on October 11 and 12. President Greg Henson from Sioux Falls Seminary was our plenary speaker. Two Brazilians gave workshops on the theme of “Faith and Culture.” Doctoral students presented the beginnings of their projects. Masters’ students presented case studies from their ministry context. It was great to bring various students together virtually for the first time.

During the month of November, I will be teaching a new class, Ethnohermeneutics, to our Masters’ students. The purpose is to give them a better understanding of this area for their contextual projects.

The weekend of October 16–17 was an exciting one! Two church plants were organized into churches. The pastor of one is my former student, Murilo. You might remember me sharing about how he does neighbourhood evangelism on his bicycle.

CHURCH NEWS

We held our first event outside of worship services in two years in support of breast cancer awareness month. We had a great turnout and time of learning and fellowship. We are looking forward to having a wedding at church in December. A couple, who made a commitment to Christ during the pandemic, are making it official!

The last weekend, through a generous donation, we sent two of our adolescents, Carol and Cris, to the retreat put on by the Word of Life Camp here in our state. Carol won the Camper of the Year Award! We are so proud of her. Carol’s family are active members in our church. They struggle each month to make ends meet. Carol’s dad works full time as a guard at a local business, and her mom sells baked good and chocolate and picks up odd jobs as much as she can. She is also the custodian at our church. Carol has just started discipling Sofia, who is 10 years old and came to Christ during the pandemic. It’s Carol’s first official ministry! Carol turned 15 years old this year – a very significant age in Brazil. I had the privilege of taking photos for this special moment in her life. As soon as Carol turns 16, she hopes to become one of the junior staff members at camp.

PERSONAL NEWS

Paulo and I have been participating in Light Blue Ocean, sponsored by the NAB. It has been a joy to learn more about missional theology together. I have also been participating in the Reframation book club, once again sponsored by the NAB. It has been so good for the soul.

Thank you so much for your prayers and generous support towards our ministry here in Brazil!

Yours . . . and His
