The Peace of God

Protests. Shooting. Explosions. Deserted streets.

These words could be used to describe the events occurring in many parts of the world today. Sadly, these words continue to apply to Cameroon, and our hearts are broken and we cry out to God to bring peace.

We have such an amazing God. He is so faithful, and He gives peace to His children during the most difficult times, situations, or circumstances. He is with us.

He loves us. He fills us with His peace.

It is the kind of peace that comes in place of panic. It doesn’t make sense, but as Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

And life continues. The rhythm of the days may be altered, but the work of the Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) continues on. God has called His children to serve, and they are being obedient to the call. It is our privilege as NAB missionaries to continue to come alongside the CBC and serve together.

Global Summit Group

In September, the Missions Advisory Team (MAT), of which I am a member, hosted the Global Summit 2025 at a YWAM base in Rostrevor, Northern Ireland. This group of NAB leaders, missionaries, and global mission partners met to discuss a number of missions topics. Missiologist Evelyn Hibbert was our guest, presenting from her extensive research in missions and leading our discussions. There were many challenging conversations as we explored everything from what is missions, to who is a missionary, and how we can connect with the next generation of leaders. We also explored changes in missions, one that is seeing a greater number of missionaries now coming from the global south – in other words, missionaries are now coming from countries that traditionally missionaries were sent to. We asked what the implications of these discussion topics have or should have on us as we consider the NAB’s future. It was a great opportunity to share different perspectives and to gain an understanding of other contexts as we met together as a diverse group from all over the world.

Team Cameroon

In October, at our annual retreat, I met with the rest of Team Cameroon to continue the discussion and see how to apply what I learned at the Global Summit. We had a great week, as we spent time together evaluating goals, setting new goals, and discussing and praying about what direction God would have us go in the future. We shared and prayed for each other and for the country of Cameroon.

We also had some lighter times of fellowship in the evenings where we enjoyed playing games together, including many rounds of SkipBo.

Viviane and Craig at RFIS

At the end of this month, Craig and I will be heading back to Cameroon. Craig will be volunteering in the finance department at Rain Forest International School (RFIS). This is where he served full time in the past. This school is outside the conflict zone, runs an American-style curriculum, and is attended by Cameroonian students, missionary children, and other international students. They are looking for additional teachers to join their staff. Please contact me if you are interested in exploring possibilities at RFIS.

While in Cameroon, I will be traveling to meet with various CBC leaders around the country. I will meet with hospital administrators, nursing supervisors, chaplains, and directors of various departments – including health services, evangelism, missions education, and individuals involved in White Cross. Once again, we will evaluate and plan for the future. We will determine the best ways for the NAB to come alongside the CBC in order to assist the CBC in meeting their goals.

I will also meet with the Crisis Relief Committee to determine how best to use the generous donations given through the NAB Cameroon Crisis Relief Fund.

Together the NAB and the CBC continue to provide vital aid to those displaced, injured, or traumatized by the ongoing conflict. Support includes medical care, sometimes medical bill assistance, help for internally displaced persons, and prison ministry.

The fund also sponsors two kinds of trauma healing workshops – one for individuals affected by trauma and another that trains pastors and seminary students to support the people in their communities in dealing with the trauma and losses they have experienced. Through this partnership, hundreds of lives in Cameroon’s NW and SW regions have been given a source of hope. You can help, too, by making a donation by clicking here and scrolling down.

I’d like to close with a little update about the nine daycare centres that White Cross has been assisting. CBC Health Services is supporting their staff by providing on-site daycare centres for children of staff members. This benefits the staff and the hospital, as childcare for babies and toddlers has become increasingly difficult to find and the hospitals are facing staffing challenges. Now two of these centres have expanded to embrace children with disabilities of all ages. These are children of hospital staff but also children who live in the community. This initiative is reaching out to the most vulnerable and often most forgotten children. Staff are able to demonstrate that God loves every child, regardless of their abilities, and the support the staff provides to these families is invaluable.

Thanks to White Cross for providing toys, baby seats, and equipment that make these centres warm and welcoming spaces.

The CBC’s theme for 2025 is “Peace Be With You.” My prayer is that you experience God’s peace in your life, that it shines through you, and that it opens doors to share the good news of Jesus.

Thank you for partnering with us in Cameroon!

Grace and Peace,

Maureen Moody
