Dear Family and Friends,
Left-behind children camps; University and High School student camps
There are millions of children who live in their rural hometowns and their parents are working thousands of miles away throughout the years. Some of them are taken care by their grandparents or relatives, with little or no education, while the others live as orphans. The “fortunate” kids would be able to see their parents once a year during the annual Spring Festival, for a week or so. Under this unusual upbringing condition, the strong feeling of abandonment fills their hearts. It is sad that the majority of them is seriously lacking love and has low self-esteem.
In July, a summer camp for 60 left-behind children was held. On the first day of the camp, we found that the kids were very uncomfortable and uneasy to communicate with us. Most of them neither spoke nor had eye contact with others. Through various kinds of activities and programs that were new to them, we tried to provide caring and spent time with them. We are amazed at how much the kids have changed through the camp. On the last two days of the camp, we were very touched that they came to us and took initiative to share their thoughts within inner hearts with us. Even some kids yearned for our hugs, which some of them had never received in their lives before. Our Heavenly Father is great and wonderful! Besides, there were two other summer camps in July, outreaching 110 university students and 160 high school students, which brought us a lot of joy. Another summer camp for 80 left-behind children has just finished early August.
Ch*rch ministries
Other than summer camps, we are also thankful to have the privilege of continuing to serve the chu*ch in many different ways. In addition to regular pastoral ministries, we are especially excited for our Father’s guidance to form new B*ble study fellowship and “Experiencing G*d” discipleship class. Please pr*y that brothers and sisters are built up in Chr*st and the ch*rch would become the tower of light.
With love and thanks,
Nick and Iris
