SEMINARY NEWS
Our second semester of this year started on July 26 with an intensive course on the spiritual disciplines and on how to be intentional in developing our relationship with the Lord when in full-time ministry. This is the first combined class with students from our Pastoral Formation course and from the Kairos Project. It is my privilege to teach it. Our hope is to finish this semester at the end of November by hosting one of our North America professors in Brazil.
CHURCH NEWS
On July 11, we were back in our church building, and we started with a baptismal service for six people. What a joyful way to return to in-person meetings! We still broadcast our services live online using Zoom and Facebook for those who are unable to come to the church or participate with us and live in a different place.
PERSONAL
Shortly after my last prayer letter, my dad, Curtis, lost his battle with cancer and passed away on May 11. Thankfully, I was able to make the trip back to Canada and arrived on May 14 to be with my mom. I spent seven weeks there, two in isolation, helping my mom and sister with all the legal stuff that needs to take place at a time like this. We had his burial with a few family members on June 11. It was difficult going through the process of erasing my dad’s name from everything, but we take comfort in knowing Dad still exists in our memories and the influences he’s had in our lives. Playing piano and singing has taken on a whole new meaning for me as this was one of the special connections I had with him. And I know that he is with Jesus – the best comfort of all! My family is so grateful for all of you who prayed for us during this time and continue to pray for us, especially my mom as she becomes accustomed to her new reality. She continues to be strong and is grateful for how so many family and friends are supporting her through this time.
On another note, because of the pandemic restrictions, I have been unable to start my fieldwork for my PhD. Also, Paulo and I will be on home assignment at the beginning of 2022. For these reasons, I will be taking the next academic year off from my studies.
