The first quarter is over and the Lord has been working abundantly here in Yaoundé.
Lee has started mentoring two students once a week and he is very excited to see them grow in their relationship with the Lord. Siyoung is a Korean missionary kid who is figuring out what it means to have a personal relationship with the Lord. David is a Cameroonian 11th grader who is discerning how much effort he should put into reading the Bible and praying since those things are part of the curriculum already. Pray that these students see God working in them and in others and the importance of maintaining the relationship and staying in the flow of the Spirit.
The students have a very rigorous workload here at Rain Forest International School (RFIS), and there seems to be a little bit of contention among the students at the amount of work we expect them to do. They don’t have much of a frame of reference as to what an AP class should be like and sometimes are surprised that they are expected to do college-level work and studying in these classes. We teachers here are praying that the students would prioritize their time wisely so that they have enough time to study, rest, and to “be a kid” every once in awhile.
We have also been continuing our ministries in building relationships with the young men and women in the volleyball circles. Trinity men’s volleyball team is led by our friend and Lee’s PE assistant, Didier. He is a Cameroonian with a heart for ministry and a love for volleyball, and we are working together to figure out new and innovative ways to bring these young men to understand and experience the love of Christ. Beta, on top of being an assistant coach for Trinity, has recently started playing for a team in our area made up of Cameroonian women. She will have the opportunity to get to know them and make a difference in the lives of these leaders in the volleyball community.
We would like to emphasize the leadership and passion of some of the locals with whom we have made contact so far, like the leader of the Trinity Volleyball Ministry.
