We have been here in Cameroon for 2 weeks now and the transition has been absolutely wonderful. The flights were very smooth, all our bags came in, and people were waiting for us at the airport at the right time. Our apartment here is totally furnished with no big expenses needed and we are off to a very comfortable start. God is good!
School started August 5th and we couldn’t have been more excited. After a few days of orientation, we know many of the “dos” and “don’ts” of the new culture in which we live, but we know that we will probably be learning most of these lessons the hard/fun way. We continue to learn new basic French phrases every day, including greetings (a very important part of Cameroonian culture), sport lingo, and the most exciting: taking a taxi.
The first two days of school were very fun and exciting for the students, and we hope that our efforts to welcome them broke down the social barriers and relieved stress for the new and returning students.
Beta has already started coaching a volleyball team of younger girls, and we are praying that the language barrier would be breached, as it is a struggle for her. I have also started playing on a team made up of young men, a few of which are believers, and most of whom are not…yet. Pray that we would be able to form relationships with these guys to be able to better present the Gospel authentically and in God’s timing.
