COVID continues to be an issue in Latin America, as with the rest of the world, but even with restrictions in most of the countries we work in, we have some exciting things happening! Our Mexican and Argentine fields are beginning to see activity that was common before the pandemic arrived.
Paco Damian, our field coordinator in Queretaro, Mexico, has developed a team there at their mother church that has taken over responsibility for the first church they planted in Queretaro. IBM Queretaro commissioned Paco and a few others to start a new work in El Marquez. Paco is building a house there that will serve as the center of this new ministry. He and his family expect to move in by the end of summer. IBM Queretaro has three other communities in development as well: Aqua Azul, Colon, and Tapoas. It’s exciting to see the return of the energy this church had before COVID.
In Argentina, even with some remaining restrictions, Church Planting Argentina (the missions arm of the IBM Argentina churches) is very active this summer (their winter). Just last week, they sent out three teams to central and northern Argentina. They will be conducting church-planting training, encouraging the pastors, and strategizing for evangelism in the cities of Tucuman and Rafaela and in the Jujuy Province. There, an indigenous pastor’s institute was planning classes this week, and the instructor fell through. Matias Buldain (student in the Sioux Falls Seminary Kairos program) was able to fill in to cover the classes!
This looks more “normal” for the churches HFC works with in Latin America. We are excited to see some activity once again. Please pray all our Field Coordinators and their teams stay healthy and safe as they step out to share the gospel.
