Building Update

In our last newsletter we wrote about having to move out of the historical Gebauer house to make way for the new Cameroon Baptist Convention Central Office building. We renovated an existing duplex on the same compound, moved and settled in, and are grateful for our new digs. Since then, we have watched the Gebauer house come down and the subsequent construction of the new office building. Everything is on schedule for a mid-June move-in date. Having the majority of the CBC departmental administrations in the same building will assist in ministry collaboration.

National Missionaries

The Cameroon Baptist Convention department of Evangelism and Missions is growing its efforts of sending Cameroonian missionaries to least-reached peoples within Cameroon and neighbouring countries. Recently, Calvin had the privilege of meeting with four newly appointed missionaries. The topic he covered with them was Cross Cultural Adaptation and Communication. Although Cameroon is a relatively small country (same size as California), its population of more than 22 million is made up of over 250 distinct cultural and language groups. Taking the Gospel to others, even within Cameroon, then requires the ability and patience to learn other cultures and languages. These missionaries are now getting established amongst the people God has called them to serve.

Spring Break

We enjoyed two weeks together as a family when Ysabelle and Elianna had spring break. The first week they come home to Bamenda where we saw a bit of them when they weren’t catching up on much deserved sleep. The second week we spent at the beach.

The girls are back in school for the last term of this year. It’s always the busiest term with final exams, papers, and various school events, like the school play. This year it’s Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream – with an African twist! Ysabelle is busy being both cast and crew.

The school year finishes the first week of June. We’re looking forward to three weeks in Canada in July: the first two weeks in Kelowna with Cal’s mother and one week in Edmonton attending the NAB Triennial Conference. Maybe we’ll have the privilege of meeting up with some of you there.

Cameroon

The Anglophone regions of Cameroon continue in a state of socio-political and civil unrest. While we generally feel safe and secure where we live, some of our colleagues have had to move out of their locations. Thousands of people are being displaced as the violence spreads. The CBC hospitals and our medical colleagues treat many victims of the violence. We are grateful that in the midst of the unrest, the peace of God guards and guides us – enabling us to be channels of His peace amidst uncertain times.

Always grateful for your partnership,

Calvin, Susanne, Ysabelle & Elianna
