Saying Goodbye and Hello

Published on November 10, 2014

Dear Family and Friends,
LATEST EVENTS
This past August we said goodbye to my colleagues, the Kidd family. After
eight and a half years, they were able to finish their ministry and return to Canada.
With that, I am now the only NAB missionary in Brazil. What that means is thatIMG_0005_2
NAB is nearing the moment when missionaries will no longer be needed in Brazil.
The Brazilian Baptist Convention is a missionary sending agent with over 600
missionaries in 58 different countries in the world, including Canada! And that’s
just the Baptists. There are other denominations and interdenominational
organizations sending Brazilian missionaries all over the world. As I write this, one
of my former students is preparing to become a missionary to China with
Worldwide Evangelization for Christ (WEC) Brazil. However, even with all of this,
there is still a huge need for foreign missionaries in Brazil who are involved in
leadership development, in training Brazilians for full-time ministry including
missions. Therefore, my role in this area is still needed.

As part of that role, in September, the State Seminary held the fifth installment
of the EQUIP Million Leader Mandate training. Once again, we had pastors and
leaders from 5 different states participating. One of our trainers, Dr. Dana
Goodnough, senior pastor at Pittsford Community Church in Rochester, NY, and
his wife, Monica, came a week early and we were able to visit Pr Carlos Lopes
and his wife, Claudia, who serve in Uruguaiana, a city located on the western
border of our state with Argentina. Pr Carlos, Claudia, and the leadership of the
First Baptist Church have taken on the responsibility of caring for 4 other churches
in their area because there are no pastors for those churches. It was exciting to
see the vision God has given Pr Carlos as he leads the ministry of these 5
churches and uses the EQUIP training to prepare leaders and future pastors!

In October, Paulo and I traveled to North Dakota and Alberta to participate in
mission meetings and conferences. It was great to meet with many people and
share about what God is doing in our ministries in Brazil. It was also a great time
to hear from other missionaries about what God is doing on their fields! God uses
their testimonies to fan the flame He has put in my heart for missions. We are also
thankful for a time of renewal and encouragement as we spent a bit of time with
family and had the opportunity to go on a 2-day retreat planned by Brentview
Baptist Church as part of their Engage Missions Conference.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT!
