Dear Family and Friends,
Shouts of joy and a roar of jubilation echoed around the city for almost an hour after the outcome had been determined. Cameroon won the Africa Cup of Nations and Bamenda was eager to celebrate. It was a great victory for the Cameroon Lions Football (soccer) team!
This victory comes at a time when the NW and SW regions of Cameroon are in need of some good news. The past several months have been filled with tension, rotating strikes, protests, and the closing of schools. While we feel safe in our home, we have had to adjust many things. Internet has been cut to most of the NW and SW regions and the strikes mean shops and markets are closed and vehicles cannot travel on certain days. This causes challenges for us, our friends, and our coworkers. Many days life appears to be going on as usual and we are able to do our various jobs and go to church on Sundays. However, this is not always the case. Please be in prayer for Cameroon, it’s leaders and it’s people. Pray that a peaceful resolution to the long standing anglophone – francophone issues will be reached soon.
We are thankful that all of the scheduled medical volunteers have been able to come to Cameroon as planned. However, Craig has had the responsibility of watching events and advising volunteers of whether to come or to cancel. It is a difficult job to make these decisions as information is not easy to obtain and situations can change rapidly. He has also been in discussions with other mission leaders and some conferences and seminars were cancelled as a result.
Emmanuel Baptist Church
In April we plan to hold our NAB retreat. We are praying that this will happen as it will give our NAB team an opportunity to get away from our workplaces to rest, seek God, and fellowship together.
As a result of the research Maureen completed last quarter, Maureen is now working on the curriculum for a 3-month orientation program for new nursing staff. She is also working on drafting a continuing education policy as well as a continuing education manual. In March, Maureen is looking forward to teaching some courses for new nurses at the training school at Banso Baptist Hospital (BBH).
Rev. and Mrs. Ngebi
In December we had the priviledge of attending the retirement celebration of Rev. Edward Ngebi. This wonderful man was our pastor when we lived in Kumba many years ago. His wife, Sarah, is also a good friend. There was a full church in Tiko to recognize the occasion and honor Rev. Ngebi with singing, speeches, and dancing. It was great to be there! The service was about 4 hours long and was followed by a feast. Tiko is in a very hot and humid climate and we were very thankful for the fans that were situated throughout the church.
