SEMINARY NEWS

Our second semester of the year is coming to a close at the beginning of December and we are looking forward to hosting Dr. Dana Goodnough and his wife, Monica, for the last two weeks as Dana teaches Pastoral Ministry to our Seminary students. It will be Dana’s 7th time in Brazil and Monica’s 3rd time. It will be a full two weeks as Dana also leads a workshop on Mentorship for our pastors and as the three of us travel to Uruguaiana (a city on the border of Argentina) for the weekend to serve at the First Baptist Church.

For the first time this semester the Seminary is transmitting its classes via a software called Zoom! It is a virtual classroom where students who live in other parts of our state can log on and participate in our Seminary classes. It is interactive so the students are able to dialogue with our professors and each other. It has been a great success and has answered a huge need we had – how to bring the Seminary to all parts of our state especially when our students are not able to leave their cities to come to the capital to study. Thanks to Caryn Young and the NAB International Office for showing us this tool!

SEPTEMBER – STATE MISSIONS MONTH

campbell1Here in Brazil, September is the month many churches hold mission campaigns – some for national missions (church planting and evangelism) because the 7th of September is Brazilian’s Independence Day. Others, like our church (Igreja Batista Boas Novas – Good News Baptist Church), celebrate state missions which is church planting among the Gaucho (“Brazilian cowboys”) people group whom we serve. Here I am with a young lady from our church in the traditional gaucho dress called a “prenda”. We wore them on the closing night of our missions campaign and also had a traditional gaucho Christian dance troupe start the evening off.

OCTOBER

campbell2It was great to spend two weeks in Canada recently for Brentview Baptist’s Engage Missions Conference in Calgary as well as the Greater Edmonton Missions Conference. I really appreciated the chance to connect with a number of you and spend some time with family! I also had the opportunity to take in the NAB Gateway training while I was there. And I even had the chance to teach my classes for the Seminary here in Brazil via Zoom. Many thanks to Brentview Baptist for making this trip possible!

A HUGE THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT!
