Christmas in Romania

Hello Everyone!

Gericke 1It has again been an incredible time of ministry here in Romania! We made the exciting announcement in November that we are bringing on another couple to be full time missionaries through the NAB. Vern and Gloria Wagner will be making the move out here hopefully in 2016 if fundraising goes well in these next few months. We had the pleasure of hosting the Wagners for a quick week-long trip where we discussed many details about their future positions working hands on with Tamas and Tunde at the camp.  The Wagners had the opportunity as well to meet with the Camp Board to share their testimonies and connect about the work at the camp. We are so incredibly excited to have them as part of our team and even on this quick trip, we already saw so much fruit from their partnership.

I organized a Christmas Party for my English class at the end of November/beginning of December. We played a number of fun icebreaker games, ate some great desserts, and did a gingerbread house making contest where the students had to recreate a gingerbread house using only English instructions. As the majority of my students are not Gericke 2from the Baptist church, I took this opportunity to make an advent calendar with them and lead them in a devotional to identify the real reason of Christmas and explained the best thing I can teach them is not English but Jesus! It will be great to see how this class may not only equip them with skills to provide them with more opportunities within Romania but also hopefully lead them to Christ.

We had an incredible month celebrating the Christmas season! It started off with a visit home to Alberta and Vancouver. Gericke 3We spent a lot of time visiting family, friends, and we were a part of church services and Romania meetings! We felt so blessed by the encouragement and support we received during all of our visits. We were able to have some alone time with our families and celebrate an early Christmas with both of them. I was especially happy to be able to see my sister for the first time since the bus accident this past June. I was blown away by how well and healthy she is! God is so good and showed her so much grace through this process.

Gericke 4While we were away, Tamas was able to serve on behalf of the camp by handing out donated Christmas shoeboxes to the village surrounding the camp. Every Christmas the pastors here receive some of the Christmas boxes from the Christmas shoe box program and then get help to give them away to families in need. Tamas took the opportunity to meet with the impoverished families around the camp and shared the Gospel with them.

We love the way Romanians celebrate Christmas and the focus they put on actually celebrating Jesus! The Christmas celebrations consist of 3 weeks of services every night and sometimes twice a day! After each service we were invited to different people’s homes for a meal and time to hangout and every evening we were invited to be a part of the village caroling. Caroling is an important part of the Christmas celebration as it is a tool Romanians use to evangelize and share the story of Christmas. One night included us taking some of the teens into the nearby city to go ice-skating. It was the first time for all of them to go skating. We had a lot of fun hanging out and teaching them how to skate!

We are so grateful for the ways God has led and provided for us and the ministry here. We look forward to what 2016 will bring for Camp Falcon Rock and how God will continue to grow Paul and I to be better followers of Him.
